This is all cutaneous, this is all cutaneous, this is a mixture of cutaneous on the same neurons – so how could this come about? I think this is an artifact of the methods used at the time, specifically, barbiturates were used as an anesthesia - they have a short time span – so anybody who has worked with barbiturates knows you have to give more of it all the time - about every hour, maybe a little sooner.

So you got an hour of recording with animals deeply anesthetized - you have to pound on them to get the neurons to respond – that’s classified as deep. Now it’s responding well again, and the animal is light and all you have to do is touch them and you get a response. That’s my interpretation, but the end result is that nobody has repeated this.              Next Page
