Quick Bio
I’ve had the privilege to be part of the Tong Lab at Vanderbilt University since November 2008. I joined the lab as a master’s student from Maastricht University, doing an 8-month research internship. Since then, I have completed my thesis and my degree, and I am still working on several projects in the lab, mostly to do with visual working memory. My master’s work was recently presented at the Berlin Brain Days, thanks to a travel award, and another project has been submitted for presentation at the Vision Sciences Society meeting for 2010 in Naples, Florida. I grew up on a small island in the Netherlands, and did my Bachelor’s in Psychology at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. Currently, I am in the process of looking for a suitable PhD position.
Research Interests
The questions that intrigue me the most have to do with how processes in the brain give rise to a stable and coherent picture of everyday life. I wish to investigate how information is gathered by the senses and how the brain carries out computations and integrates this information in order to eventually make decisions. More specifically, I am interested in topics such as bistability, attention, working memory, and multi-sensory integration.
