Since the interview is lengthy, it is broken into three parts. Part 1 covers Bill's early history, college at Bucknell, PhD from Carnegie-Mellon, and first job at the Medical School, University of Pittsburg. It is 24 minutes long.

Included is his entertaining account of Dean Voegeli's visit to the deteriorating Wesley Hall. The interview concludes with his retirement decision and post-retirement activities.
