And Siamese cats have this abnormal projection where it diffuses and the projections is larger than it should be – so it goes by the line of decussation what would be normal, by the fovea and goes into the wrong visual field – and things don’t match up any more in visual space.

So connections to the cortex wouldn’t make any sense, and so on. So he noticed this because there was, by chance, a Siamese cat in the study of normal retinal projections. He saw one [LGN] that was completely goofy and when he checked on which individual cat that was, he saw it was a Siamese cat.
