Fox Interview

The interview has three parts.

Part 1 covers Bob's family background, work before college, and college. He relates how he eventually chose to major in psychology (despite his Introductory course), and some of his undergraduate research experience. Bob completed his PhD at The University of Cincinnati in 1963. Part 1 is 16 minutes long.

Part 2. Bob enters the job market (already with several publications), gets two job offers, and hears about an opening at Vanderbilt. His job interview, one of the most unique in history because of the breadth of Bob's research experience, is described in some detail. He gets his lab underway and contributes to departmental space-growth planning, along the way beginning to have some friction with department chair, Don Thistlethwaite. Part 2 is 28 minutes long.

Part 3 begins with Psychology's space in the Stephenson Center, how it was acquired and who was assigned to it. Bob then discusses binocular rivalry, why he considers it a deep problem and why he has spent much of his career on it. The interview ends abruptly when the phone rings. We may be able to have another interview later. Part 3 is 25 minutes long.
