STUDY
TI PS
-
Preview the study material and complete the assigned readings.
-
Try to be in class on time, and don't skip class lectures.
-
Feel free to come to Dr. Ray and your TA's office hours for
questions.
-
Reading chapters does not equal preparing for the exam. Follwoing
some principles of memory encoding and retrieval to make your study efficient
and achive a good grade on the course.
-
Material is remembered better if it is elaborated precisely
and meaningfully.
-
Memory is better when the test context matches the study
context.
-
Memory is better when the mental processes engaged at test
are the same as those engaged at the time of study. So the characteristics
of an exam should determine how you study. For instance, our exam questions
are mutiple-choice questions; then it would be good for you to practice
mutiple-choice questions on old tests and try to come up with your own
questions covering the materials.
-
Memory is better when material is studied a little bit at
a time ("spaced") than when it is studied all at once. Take you time to
study and work on exams.
