Psychology 101   Spring, 2001

FORMAT OF THE COURSE

Dr. Ray will lecture most Tuesday and Thursday mornings on the topics listed in the Course Schedule. You are responsible on exams for all of the lecture material and for the assigned chapters and videos. If there are guest lecturers, you are responsible on exams for their material. The lectures and the book cover the same basic concepts. They do not overlap directly, and this is intentional. Neither one can substitute for the other. That means you need to read the text, and come to class. To make it easier to learn and remember what is discussed in class, you should read the assigned chapters before the assigned date. You will receive lecture outlines for each section of the course. They are to help you. Use them to help you take notes. Outlines are posted on the web page after lecture.

COMPUTATION FOR SEMESTER GRADE

Three steps to go:

1. Drop the lowest class exam grade and convert the letter grade for each remaining exam into a number using this table:

B+   9
C+   6
D+    3
F     0
A    11
B     8
C     5
D      2
A-    10
B-    7
C-    4
D-     1

2. Add the four numbers (three class exams and the final) obtained from Step #1. This total number is used in Step #3 to obtain your lettergrade for the semester.

3. Convert the total number, from Step 2, to letter grade for the semester:

26-28      B+
17-19      C+
8-10    D+
1 or less     F
32-33      A
23-25      B
14-16      C
5-7        D
29-31      A-
20-22      B-
11-13      C-
2-4       D-

To receive a passing grade in this course (D- or better), you must achieve a grade of at least D (2 points) on two of the exams. I have been told that only a C- or better is converted to a Pass when the course is taken on the Pass-Fail system.
